NASCAR's last-lap crash at Talladega took out 25 cars

Alright, I do not follow Nascar. It may be one of the only auto / bike series that I do not follow, but what were they thinking? Lets have 30 cars line up, 4 wide for the final lap? Whoever decided this restart should be fired, and if I were an owner of one of the teams that has a wrecked car, or multiple cars I would sue Nascar. I realize that Nascar has a lot of high flying crashes, but this seems like Nascar needed a boost in ratings.
